Tropicana Properties called on inspiring artists at their apartment complexes to participate in a special chalk contest, titled “Color My World”.  Residents at over 34 apartment complexes created unique art on the porches of their homes. They took photos of their artwork and shared on social media outlets for a chance to win cash prizes and the including the grand prize of $1,000.

Tropicana was able to coordinate with elected local officials Joe Moody, Cesar Blanco, and Mary Gonzalez to serve as judges for the contest. “What an amazing event to be a part of! The talent of all of the participants made judging very tough.”, commented Moody.

Tropicana Properties created this contest for several reasons, in an effort to bring positivity and solidarity while still doing something fun and all while remaining socially distant.  Tropicana Properties wanted to help their tenants in a small way by creating this contest and award the winners with gift cards to local restaurants, to help other industries who may be struggling locally. “This is one way that we can give back to our community. It’s important to support local business and keep the morale of our tenants high during the current pandemic we are enduring”, said Demetrio Jimenez, President of Tropicana Properties.

All first-place winners were entered into a drawing for a chance to win $1,000. One lucky tenant, Adalay Hinojsa at Vinton Palms, was announced winner on Tropicana Properties’ Facebook page.
